EDIT: tried it a 2nd time, and this time was different, ie better. I had decreased my humidor RH (within 68-72% even though the digital hygro reads 71%/21.5C) in the past week, and the first eval was done at a higher RH (74% or so). It would seem that RH differences of even a few % points do impact how well a stogie's flavor develop. I used to think you needed a bigger delta, but apparently not.
This Macanudo has a perfect draw, construction, and burn. About 90 mins smoke if you pace yourself.
Creamy smoke, not really peppery or zesty in the first third (the 2nd time around), comes into its own in the 2nd and last third with earth/leather flavors with faint herbal/floral notes, creaminess with faint hints of sweet vanilla.
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade
Smooth, creamy, and slightly sweet character. The Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade is different than a traditional Connecticut wrapper. The former develops more of a subtle richness and complexity, smoother overall.
Binder and Filler:
A blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos in the filler and binder. Balanced strength and complexity.
Flavor Profile:
Medium-bodied, with notes of cedar, nuts, creamy vanilla, and a hint of spice.
Smooth and consistent burn with a medium finish, often described as rich but not overpowering.
Strength: Medium
Suitable for both intermediate smokers and those looking for a flavorful yet not too heavy smoke.
Overall, not bad, good, verging on the great. Great morning smoke with caramel macchiato, coffee, etc, and definitely will become one of my everyday smoke go-tos.
