For the price, $32, this is a greatly overrated Connecticut Shade wrapper stogie. Yes, the construction and draw are perfect. Also a perfect even burn. But is there a depth of flavors present that would put this cig above the rest that cost half as much? The answer is a resounding 'No!'
So, for the budget conscious, fear not, you are not missing anything grandiose by forgoing the Ashton Magnum.
Total smoke time will be about 60+ mins. Good for a mild morning smoke paired with coffee to start the day in a pensive mood.
Flavor Profile:
First Third: Opens with silky cream, sweet hay, and light almond. However, if you light it too fast, as I did, none of that will be true and it will only be bitter and rough.
Exceptionally smooth draw with virtually no spice.
Second Third: Evolves with vanilla but very slight, could barely taste any vanilla, buttered toast, and a hint of citrus zest.
Final Third: Introduces a gentle note of white pepper, cedar, and faint nuttiness, but always remains mild and graceful.
Very clean finish with a lingering creaminess.
But again, all the above was very slight. And always bear in mind this was a first-time experience with the Ashton Magnum, so perhaps a one-off or my palate is just not refined enough and it is I who is lacking and not the stogie.
