Origin of Dictators Hand: The Esteban Carreras Dictator's Hand cigar derives its name from a compelling history rooted in 1990s Cuba. During this period, Gonzalo Puentes, then Minister of Tobacco, led a project to enhance the Corojo tobacco strain through a meticulous process called positive selection. This involved cultivating 100 plants, selecting the top five, and regenerating them over several cycles to produce superior seeds. These prized seeds were clandestinely smuggled out of Cuba, away from governmental control, symbolically "taken from the hand of the dictator." This act of defiance inspired the cigar's name, paying homage to the individuals who risked much to preserve this exceptional tobacco lineage.
