Casa Turrent 1901 Maduro Gran Robusto
Description
The Casa Turrent 1901 had a limited release in 2013 before making its way to North America two years later, quickly earning the 16th spot on Cigar Aficionado's top 25 list of 2016 and a reputation as a near-perfect melding of Nicaraguan and Mexican tobaccos. The Turrent family grows their tobacco across 2,000 acres in the San Andrés valley of Mexico, and their San Andrés Morrón maduro wrapper leaf is considered by aficionados to be one of the finest available in the world, found in some of the most prestigious cigar brands on the market. The Gran Robusto format at 5 3/4 x 52 is the sweet spot of the lineup, giving the blend the room it needs to fully express itself.
What makes this cigar stand out is how the San Andrés Maduro wrapper never overpowers the rest of the blend, letting the boldness of the Nicaraguan tobaccos come through alongside it. The result is a rich profile of earth, leather, cocoa, and dark cherry that evolves throughout a smoke that runs close to 90 minutes, finishing long and creamy with notes of sweet spice, cedar, and roasted nuts that linger well after the last draw. Medium to full in body and endlessly satisfying, this is one of the finest Mexican cigars available anywhere.
